It's no secret that I love sparkly things, but this sequin skirt had sat in my closet unworn for quite some time. I bought it and wore it for my birthday two years ago and haven't worn it since. I kept thinking something so flashy should only be worn in a club/dance party situation (which isn't really my scene these days anymore), so I decided to re-purpose this for more "realistic" scenarios.
Look 1: This is a slightly preppy take on the sequin skirt. Pairing it with my favorite chambray shirt, feather embellished headband, tortoise-shell necklace, black opaque tights and leopard flats really dress the skirt down and make this wearable for a casual afternoon outing. I chose my everyday brown slouchy leather purse to carry along which definitely has a more "relaxed" vibe. Pairing basic pieces & neutral accessories with this skirt makes it appropriate for daytime, instead ofย restricting its wear for nighttime only!
Look 2: This look is on the dressier side without looking too "clubby". If I had paired this with a sleeveless top, it would have been a little much, but the flutter-sleeved silk top makes it a bit more demure. I didn't go nuts with the accessories on this outfit to let the skirt really stand out, but I did pair it with these amazing strappy heels. These are actually my second pair of these shoes - I wore my first pair to death and replaced them when they fell apart!
Look 3: Here I paired the skirt with a gray sweater with beaded embellishments along the collar. I like how the detail on the sweater compliments the sequins on the skirt, and the mono-chromatic color scheme plays the outfit down. I chose to wear these amazingly comfortable black suede booties with this outfit. The shoes blend in seamlessly with the tights which elongates the legs and makes me look just a little bit taller (an illusion I aim for quite often!) I wore my black purse with the chain strap and a silver leather bracelet to tie it all together.
My suggestion for anyone unsure of how to wear a piece in their closet is to try to think of unconventional pairings - mix something super dressy with something super casual, mix different textures, etc. Sometimes it just works, but it takes a little creativity and trial & error!
If anyone ends up styling a sequin skirt after reading this post, please email or tweet me a picture; I'd love to see what fabulous outfit ideas you come up with!

Fabulous ideas. Sooo helpful. You look gorgeous in all three looks (right down to your pedi) – it’s hard to pick a favorite! Thanks for the closeups of the shoes and accessories. BTW, your makeup (again) is impeccable – soft, feminine, perfection.
